Join us for Book Club for kids. Free for the family, and kids and caregivers of all ages are invited to join. Bring snacks, your favorite book to share and your best listening ears. Visit for some lively reading, light coloring, and a whole lotta talk about books.

Group Tutoring and Quiet Workspace for Big Kids
As a community hub, Beehive Upstairs hopes to support big kids and their families in their quest to love and find success in learning. Rachel, owner of Beehive, is a current classroom teacher in first and second grade, a certified reading specialist and a certified ESL teacher. She has taught for many years in Philadelphia and attended UVM for Elementary Education and the University of Pennsylvania for her MS Ed. in Language and Literacy. Each Tuesday, from 5:30-7:30, Rachel, and other teachers as this program grows, will host small group tutoring and homework help at Beehive Upstairs. We aim to keep this group both fun and supportive of needs. Grown-ups are welcome to drop-off. Kids can stay the whole two hours or be there for whatever chunk of the time feels best to their family. This group tutoring is open house style. Ideal for students in Kindergarten to Fourth grades, but if your student falls outside of this range, let’s chat!
Story of Play Pop-Up

Each 45 min session includes a themed book read aloud, followed by child-led exploratory play in 3-4 play areas where children create their own stories with quality toys to enhance the storytelling experience. Play adventure areas have been designed to engage the children, encourage social development, and inspire creativity. Whether a vet, paleontologist, doctor, or builder, children can explore play areas that include: cafe, construction zone, dino world, garden, camp, market and more. These pretend play areas allow children to discover a world of their imagination with endless possibilities, as no two play sessions are alike.

Come join local artist Lisa Conn as she teaches kids and caregivers how to make toys using cardboard. Each week will feature a new toy to create and bring home with you. Drop in for one class, 3 classes or all of them! This class is not a dropoff and is for children ages 4-8.

Making gifts for your besties (and you!). Bath bombs, knotted friendship bracelets, scrapbooking and making your own epic photo props. We will read The Sandwich Swap by Kelly DiPucchio and Rania Al Abdullah, head to local parks, play and craft. It'll be a memorable week!

Campfire songs, spooky stories, forest animals, tents, lanterns, maps, and faux smores. Through reading Peter Brown’s Wild Robot and The Hike by Allison Farrel, heading to local parks, playing and crafting we will explore the wilderness… all from our Beehive home in South Philly!

Get tangled up in choose your own adventure with string art, finger knitting, crotchet, scrap fabric weaving, embroidery, knotted bracelets and more! We will read Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett, create community art, head to local parks, play and craft. Yarn bombing, anyone?

SO many beads: polymer clay, sculpting, charms, painting beads, bead looms, perler beads, and more! Reading Hidden Gem by Linda Lui, we will explore faux jewels and gems, do a Bok-wide treasure hunt, explore local parks and more… all while getting fancy!

Flap your wearable costume wings, learn some local birds to identify and experiment with things that coast, glide and fly! We will read Magnificent Birds by Narisa Togo, head to local parks, make a giant bird nest, play and craft. Let’s fly into a bird-filled week!

Is it flat or 3D? You decide as we fold, tear, cut, glue and sculpt with paper! We will read The Paper Dolls by Julia Donaldson, head to local parks, make paper dolls and superheroes, play and craft. From goopy papier mache sculpting, to delicate paper flowers, collage and oragami, we've got you all wrapped up!

Family Movie Night: E.T.
I guess we like classic movies here at Beehive: Beehive Upstairs will host a movie night featuring the movie E.T.! Price includes popcorn and juice boxes for the kids and you can add on pizza which we will get delivered from Chiquitas. Adults can BYO beer or wine. Food will start at 5:30 and movie will start at 6 on the big screen.
Kids can watch the movie on the big screen, grown-ups can watch and hang! Have a little, little one? Our Beehive Upstairs has lots of toys and fun for our littlest bees. This is a family event, drop-off is not an option.
